Historic Zoning Commission

Decherd Buildings

In accordance with Tennessee Code Annotated 13-7-401, the Decherd Historic Zoning Commission was established by order of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen April 9, 2024. It was created to protect certain areas of the city of a historic nature. Many of these structures were built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

By establishing historic zones or districts, the Commissions goal is to stabilize and improve property values, encourage rehabilitation and new development that will be harmonious with other historic structures.

The DHZC is currently seeking community members to volunteer and join the commission. If you are interested in preserving town history, contact the Mayor by marynell.hess [at] decherdtn.gov (email) or stop by City Hall during normal office hours.
