The Municipal Codes and Zoning Department primarily ensures public health, safety, and community welfare by regulating how land and structures within the municipality can be used, built, and maintained. This is accomplished through the enforcement of local, state, and federal building codes and zoning ordinances. The department reviews construction and renovation plans to ensure they meet all applicable codes and zoning laws. If approved, they issue the necessary building, sign, or other permits. Its officers investigate citizen complaints and proactively address violations related to property upkeep, such as high grass, unkempt premises, or abandoned vehicles, to preserve neighborhood aesthetics and property values.
The Decherd City Codes Enforcement Officer has the authority to enforce titles 12, 13 and 14 of the Municipal Code. These codes can be found by clicking here. Contact the Codes Enforcement Officer's office if you have any questions about building codes, zoning or any other questions concerning your property.
