The Recreation Department was created to develop and provide oversight of day-to-day operations for programs, services, facility rentals, and other recreation uses of our three city parks. Sorry, dogs are not allowed in any city park.
Babe Ruth Ball Park
This park is located on College Street just off Main Street and has two Softball fields and one Babe Ruth ball field also known as the John L. Sanders Memorial Field with concession stands and restrooms. They are open to the public, but leagues should apply at City Hall to reserve any of these fields.
There is a half mile jogging or walking trail with resting benches along the course and a new basketball court.
There is a large parking lot to serve visitors.
Hank Weddington Park
This park, located in Downtown Decherd on Main Street, is a great place to meet with friends and family at either the park pavilion or pergola. There is a new children's playground and restroom facilities. If you would like to reserve the pavilion for your meeting, please come to city hall for a reservation permit.
Also, the historic "calabooses" are on display there. These were erected between 1914 and 1915 to "hold the town drunks until they slept it off".
Washington Triangle
This park, located at Nineth Street, Old Winchester Road and Shepard Street was dedicated by the Decherd Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (now defunct) in 1923 who held an event that year there to honor Washington's birthday. The park is currently undeveloped. If you have any ideas for its use, contact the Recreation Department.
